Jefferson County Circuit Judge Randy Koschnick will serve as the next director of state courts.

The director serves as the top non-judicial officer of the court, overseeing personnel, budgeting, and information technology issues.

Koschnick, who ran unsuccessfully for the high court in 2009 against Justice Shirley Abrahamson, was appointed by the state Supreme Court. He currently serves as the chief judge of the state’s Third Judicial Administrative District – a position he has held since 2012. He was first elected to the bench in Jefferson County in 1999, and was re-elected in 2005 and 2011.

He was also among a long list of people who applied to fill a vacancy created by the retirement of Justice David Prosser over the summer, but was ultimately passed over for the position.

Koschnick will start in August of next year, replacing interim director Denis Moran.
