La Crosse County prosecutors say a man accused of fatally stabbing his wife Sunday night did so in front of five children. WXOW News 19 reports that the detail was revealed during a Monday afternoon court appearance for 35-year-old Haron Joyner.

Joyner faces charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide in the death of his wife, 29-year-old Jessica Joyner. The children who witnessed the stabbing ranged from ages 5 to 11.

Police responded to a residence on La Crosse’s west side at around 11:17 p.m. Sunday on a report of a woman who was stabbed. Jessica Joyner was taken to Gundersen Health System where she died about 90 minutes later.

Haron Joyner left the home before police arrived, and was arrested without incident shortly after 2 a.m. Monday morning. Joyner is in the La Crosse County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond on the homicide charge and is scheduled to return to court on March 15.
