The state Supreme Court on Tuesday upheld controversial restrictions to Wisconsin’s collective bargaining laws for public employees, but they won’t take effect right away.
The measure must be published still by Democratic Secretary of State Doug La Follette, who says he will wait to do so until June 28th. That’s the longest period of time he can delay action.
La Follette, who has been very critical of the GOP legislation, says he is simply following the normal procedure his office often takes with publishing bills. He says it’s not uncommon to wait the 10 days allowed under the law, so those impacted by the changes have time to prepare.
With publishing of the bill in the state newspaper set for the 28th, the law would officially take effect on June 29th.
