The U.S. labor secretary visits Wisconsin to push for the White House jobs initiative.
Scheduled to appear at a construction site at Milwaukee’s Jones Island wastewater plant along with Mayor Tom Barrett, Secretary Hilda Solis will explain how President Obama’s job funding and tax breaks could put many of Wisconsin’s unemployed back to work. Solis says the American Jobs Act would upgrade sewer systems, roads, and bridges.
Solis also says the package includes a “national infra-structure bank” which would hand out funds for projects that could reduce pollution and utility bills. For example, new turbines would replace existing ones at the Jones Island project to burn landfill gas, rather than the more expensive natural gas.
The meeting was scheduled to take place at 10:45 am.
