telephone A reminder that today is your last day to sign up for the No Call List.

You have until midnight to get your name on the registry that bans telemarketers from calling you. Glen Loyd with Wisconsin Consumer Protection says the system works just fine, but unfortunately, a lot of people have waited until the last minute to sign up.

"By the way, our system is signing up one person per second — almost one person per second 24 hours a day. At the end of the day today we will have signed up 100,000 people."

Loyd reminds you to sign up every two years or you'll no longer be protected from pesky telemarketers. Currently there are 930,000 people on Wisconsin's No Call List, and the updated version comes out January first. Loyd says because it's the last day to register, a lot of people are calling so, be patient.

"And we do apologize if somebody doesn't get through. The telephone system is working as fast as it can, and it's pretty fast signing one person up per second."

Loyd says more than 500,000 telephone numbers have fallen off Wisconsin's No Call List since the all time high registration of 1.5 million. You can sign up anytime by calling 1-866-9-NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255), or by visiting NoCall.Wisconsin.gov . Loyd suggests you sign up every year on your birthday so you don't forget. Regarding new proposals at the capitol to ban or regulate political robocalls, Loyd says simply, his office will enforce the law … whatever that is.
