A state senator from Oshkosh will now oversee more than 125 state employees, as the leader of a division of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Governor Jim Doyle appointed Senator Carol Roessler to the job this week. Roessler will leading the Division of State and Local Finance. Roessler says that division is charged primarily with overseeing shared revenue payments and levy limits, distribution of equalized aid to state school districts, and assessments on manufacturing and telecommunication properties.

The Republican lawmaker had already announced she wouldn't run for another term in the senate. She says she heard about the new job opening a few weeks ago. "I wanted to make a change in the lifestyle that's demanded by the state Senate," Roessler said, adding that she planned on remaining "open and available if something came my way." Roessler will resign her seat in July to take up her new post, which provides an annual salary of $95,000.
