As Wisconsin works to extend its SeniorCare program, one state lawmaker wants to rally the public behind the cause. In an effort to show public support for SeniorCare, State Representative Tom Nelson (D-Kaukauna) is launching a statewide petition drive. Nelson says the objective is to get the most number of people on board, although he's setting no official goals. The Kaukauna Democrat plans to collect signatures, and then deliver the petition in Washington DC to the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Federal funding for SeniorCare is currently set to expire in June, but Nelson says the program is clearly needed. He points to large enrollment increases in the state program over just the past year. Nelson says SeniorCare is far superior to Medicare Part D for many Wisconsinites.

Nelson says he's working to collect most of the signatures himself, but hopes other lawmakers will join in on the effort.
