A state Senator is calling for a detailed look at a state program that provides health care coverage to children and eligible families across Wisconsin.
Green Bay Republican Rob Cowles, co-chair of the legislature's audit committee, says he's not pleased with a projected $25 million cost overrun for BadgerCare Plus. He says we need to find out why this is happening because of the serious budget trouble already facing Wisconsin. Cowles wants an audit of the program.
Recent estimates show enrollment in BadgerCare Plus is at 85,000 people, which is more than three times the original projections in the last state budget. Cowles says the figures keep growing as well.
He says people can argue about the merits of the program, but they have to find a way to pay for it.
