Parents who fail to make child support payments on time could soon find themselves posted on the Internet.
Child support deadbeats who owe more than $500 would be listed on online, under legislation from State Representative Steve Wieckert (R-Appleton). The site would list the name of offenders, where they live, and how much they owe under court orders.
The idea is based on a Department of Revenue website that lists individuals with unpaid income taxes. Wieckert says that site has helped the state collect millions in unpaid income taxes in the short time it's been online. He's hoping for similar success with the over $3 billion in unpaid child support owed in Wisconsin.
