The League of Women Voters will have citizen observers in place for Wisconsin state Senate recall elections. League President Andrea Kaminski told the state Government Accountability Board tha they want to assure there are no access problems for voters, especially in light of the new, but yet to be implemented, voter I.D. requirement. “The legislature did not allow enough time to train local election officials, and educate voters before this summer’s recall elections,” said Kaminski. “The league is concerned this could result in uneven implementation of the law, and confusion for voters and election officials alike.”

Kaminski said the League will share it’s findings with the GAB. Kaminski also told the GAB the League also wants to make sure free IDs for voting only are available, as provided for in the new law. “We hope you’re working with the DMV to improve accessibility of free IDs for voting.” Kaminski said more clarity is needed as to whether the official photo ID will have to have the individual’s current address when presented at polling places beginning next year.
