A state lawmaker wants to put an end to a common check cashing scam. State Representative Mark Pocan (D-Madison) says many Wisconsin residents and businesses are being targeted with checks, that when cashed, sign you up for a service or product you may not actually want. He says it's unfair for people to be signed up for a service, when they think they're just cashing a check.

Pocan is sponsoring a bill that would ban the practice. The Madison Democrat says the practice is clearly meant to mislead people, and businesses should be forced to let people know what they're signing up for.

The bill is currently being considered by a legislative committee.
