A proposal at the Capitol would make it easier for travelers to find major attractions.
The bill from State Representative Dean Kaufert (R-Neenah) would allow tourist attractions to be listed on blue signs typically posted near highway exits, if they're within 30 miles. Current law restricts those listings to within 3-5 miles of a highway exit. Kaufert says that prevents many attractions from gaining needed recognition along state highways and interstates.
Kaufert says the change could help boost visits to locations tourists may not even know about.
The Neenah Republican says the signs would have to list how far away attractions are from the highway exit. That way, travelers would know how far out of the way a site is.
The bill is being considered by an Assembly committee.
