A state lawmaker says an open records lawsuit by the former Attorney General was a waste of taxpayer dollars.

An appeals court dismissed a lawsuit this week from former Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager, saying she lacked standing to carry on the case.

The case revolved around State Representative Scott Gunderson and former State Senator Dave Zien showing drafts of a concealed carry bill to NRA lobbyists. Lautenschlager claimed those drafts should be public record.

However, Gunderson says lawmakers need the ability to work on legislation and fine tune it, before they bring it forward. Gunderson says bills undergo many changes during the drafting process and it's the final product that's important.

A lower court had already rejected the lawsuit and Lautenschlager was voted out of office.  The appellate court rejected her attempt to continue representing the state in the lawsuit.
