The state Elections Board this week told gubernatorial candidate Mark Green he had to get rid of nearly half a million dollars in campaign funds. They were from political action groups not registered with the state, from Green's congressional campaign fund. Green and others called the move illegal, and blatant partisanship, because the transfer was made when the elections rule was suspended.
One member of the Elections Board is speaking up. Jacob Burns, the only Libertarian on the board said the right decision was made. Burns said he voted in accordance with state law. When asked about a similar situation in 2001 with then gubernatorial candidate and congressman Tom Barrett, Burns said Barrett should have been ordered to get rid of PAC money as well.
