Less than a week after 57 dogs were rescued from a Lincoln County home, the shelter caring for the pets says it has received more than 500 applications from people hoping to adopt one of the animals. Along with those hopeful new owners, shelter officials say they have received an outpouring of community support in the form of cash donations, pet supplies, bedding, and even donated veterinary services.

The Humane Society says it will screen applicants in the coming days and plans to place the animals that are ready for adoption in homes by New Year’s Eve.

Shelter officials say one of the biggest problems they are dealing with right now is finding storage space for the supplies and places to house the pets. The shelter normally has just 11 dogs at a time and has been using cat carriers to house some of the small puppies since they were surrendered to the agency over the weekend.
