Adam Lind went 3 for 5 with a three-run homer and drove in six runs to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-5 win over the Minnesota Twins in their series opener at Target Field.
Lind’s double put the Brewers ahead to stay in the 8th inning and his single in the ninth provided some insurance.
The Brewers jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four innings, but the Twins rallied with five runs in the fifth off of starter Kyle Lohse. Lohse had scattered just two singles over the first four innings.
Joe Mauer hit a three run homer to right on an 0-2 pitch to tie the game at 5. It was just the second home run of the season for Mauer.
Matt Garza gets the nod for the Brewers in game two of the series tonight.
Will Smith
Brewers left handed reliever Will Smith had his suspension for having a foreign substance on his arm reduced from eight games to six on Friday.
Smith was originally suspended eight games after being ejected from a game on May 21 for having a foreign substance on his arm. He was suspended the next day, immediately appealed and finally had that appeal heard Monday in St. Louis.
Ryan Braun
Ryan Braun was back in uniform for the Brewers on Friday night, two days after having a cryogenic procedure performed on his right thumb.
It was the second such procedure for Braun, who was available to pinch hit. Braun said he’s hopeful to be able to return to the starting lineup on Saturday.
