Ryan Braun clubbed a 2-run homer and Yuniesky Betancourt added a 3-run blast, both in the 1st inning as the Brewers build at 5-0 lead and cruised to the victory.

Lohse worked 5-solid innings but had to leave the game in the sixth when he collided with a fielder at first base and dislocated his left pinky finger.  But there is good news on the injury front for a change.  It looks like Lohse won’t miss his next start.

Lohse held the Padres to 1 run on 5-hits through 5-innings before departing.

Braun’s home run in the 1st is the 208th of his career.  It ties him with Gorman Thomas for fourth on the all-time Brewers home run list.

Robin Yount (251) leads that list.  Prince Fielder and Geoff Jenkins are also ahead of Braun at the moment.

Yovani Gallardo pitches game 2 of the series tonight for the Brewers.

Carlos Gomez

Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez was named the National League’s Player-of-the-Week.  Gomez hit .500 with 2-home runs, 3 rbi’s and 17 total bases while the Brewers went unbeaten for the week.
