It was a struggle for Milwaukee Brewers starter Kyle Lohse on Thursday as he took
the loss in a 5-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers missed a chance to pull out their first 4-game sweep of the Cubs after winning the first three games in the series.
Lohse said home plate umpire Chad Fairchild told catcher Martin Maldonado that Lohse’s grumpy face is going to cost him some strikes. The comment reportedly came after Nate Schierholtz ripped a 3-1 fastball for a 2-run homer in the third inning to give the Cubs a 3-0 lead. Lohse thought Fairchild missed some pitches during the at bat.

The Brewers didn’t do much offensively. They managed just 3-hits off of Cubs starter Jake Arrieta and 4-hits overall on the day. The Brewers only run came on a 7th inning home run from Carlos Gomez.
The loss dropped the Brewers to 17-34 in day games this season, including an 8-20 mark at Miller Park.

The game ended with outfielder Logan Schafer being called out on strikes on a pitch he thought was out of the strike zone. Schafer tossed his bat and helmet in disgust, drawing an equipment citation from Fairchild that comes with a fine.
The Brewers open their final home series of the season tonight when they host the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park. Johnny Hellweg (1-4, 8.31) gets the start for the Brewers. The Cardinals counter with Shelby Miller (14-9, 3.01).
