Gas prices have dropped almost a dollar below record highs set in August, but industry analysts warn lower prices may be short lived. The statewide average for regular unleaded gasoline hit a record level in August of this year, with a statewide average of $3.18 a gallon. AAA Wisconsin's Pam Moen says that price has dropped dramatically in just the past few weeks, falling almost 91 cents.

However, Moen warns the relief we're feeling at the pump could be short lived. She says nothing has been done to fix the problems that lead to higher prices in the first place, such as our over-dependence on foreign oil. Moen warns that another crisis like last year's hurricane season could send prices spiking again. She also predicts that prices will stabilize in the coming weeks and could even go up if foreign oil producers cut production.
