Efforts to expose more tax delinquents in Wisconsin are paying off.

The Department of Revenue already lists on its website people who owe the state at least $25,000. Starting next month, a change in state law lowers that threshold to $5,000, greatly expanding who's on the list.

DOR spokeswoman Jessica Iverson says they've sent out warning letters to nearly 14,000 individuals who will be added to the new list. That effort is bringing in good results so far, with over $2.3 million collected before the holidays.

Iverson says the letters allow people to resolve their debt with the state before the posting. Once they're on the list, they will still have a chance to get their names off by either working with the state or filing for bankruptcy.

The lower limit was included in the state budget.
