One of the Milwaukee Brewers’ only remaining stars says trading him would be best for both he and the team. However, Jonathan Lucroy told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Haudricourt he would not slack off or be a nuisance if it doesn’t happen.
The 29-year-old Lucroy, from his home in Lafayette, Louisiana, said rebuilding is no fun for a veteran like him. He wants to play in a World Series and he doesn’t see the Brewers winning “in the foreseeable future.”
The Brewers would want top dollar for the six-year veteran and 2014 All-Star, but Lucroy is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he only played 103-games due to a broken toe and a concussion. He finished the season hitting .264 with seven home runs.
Lucroy’s contract is a friendly one for the Brewers, as well as any club looking to acquire him. He is due to make $4 million this year with a club option for $5.25 million next season.
If we’ve learned anything from Lucroy during his career in Milwaukee, it’s the fact that he is a team player. When he says he won’t rock the boat, you can believe that.
But his interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel could be viewed as a friendly plea for the organization to find a way to get a deal done.
The fans would miss Lucroy, but knowing the rebuild that is going to take place in Milwaukee moving forward, those fans would likely support a move to send Lucroy elsewhere. If you are going to hope for good things for anybody, Lucroy would be at the top of the list.
