For members of a western Wisconsin church, lutefisk is more than just cod soaked in lye. This is the 75th anniversary for the annual lutefisk supper held by an Osceola area church. Kim Palmsteen, publicity chairman for West Immanuel Lutheran Church, says it’s a big family gathering. Palmsteen has been working at the West Immanuel lutefisk dinner since she was in fifth grade. Her grandfather and now her father help prepare the cod which is soaked in lye, boiled and served with other traditional Scandinavian delicacies. For shy people, the church provides meatballs.
