A proposed hotel redevelopment for downtown Madison has fallen off the edge, following a deadlocked city council voted on funding. Tuesday’s 10-10 tie means a developer won’t get $16-million in tax incremental financing for the Edgewater hotel project. City council president Lauren Cnare is disappointed. “One person changed his mind and a couple of the other folks who were new did not see the merits of the project and voted no, which leaves really nowhere,” said Cnare. “The developer was pretty clear . . . he indicated there is no project.” Madison Mayor Paul Soglin’s budget calls for only $3.3 million in tax money for the Edgewater, located on the downtown shore of Lake Mendota.
