Madison native Phil Kessel played just one season at the University of Minnesota before turning pro. Kessel was drafted by the Boston Bruins 5th overall in the first round. As a freshmen, Kessel scored 18 goals and added 33 assists for the Gophers last season. He won't return for his sophomore season after signing a multi-year deal with the Bruins.
