A Rock County man accused of dismembering a burning a corpse in his fire pit, and then plotting an escape from the Rock County Jail, is going to need a new lawyer.
29-year-old Nathan Middleton’s attorney resigned from his case after unknowingly becoming a part of his escape plot.
Middleton is facing new charges, after Sheriff’s Deputies say they found out he was plotting an escape from jail. According to a criminal complaint, the letter Middleton’s attorney delivered asked Middleton’s mother to search online for information on how to make a bomb, and then blow up the side of the Rock County Jail. The letter also asked his mother to get a rental car and to steal a set of license plates, to help aid in an escape to Mexico. He wrote that he knew people in Mexico who could help them.
Authorities have not said whether Middleton’s mother could face any charges.
Middleton has been jailed for the past month on charges that he dismembered the body of 18-year-old Aprina Paul of Fitchburg, and then burned her body in the fire pit at his rural Evansville home. The two met after Paul answered an ad on Craigslist. Middleton claims he awoke to find Paul dead in his home and decided to dispose of the body. An investigation has so far been unable to determine how the teen died.
