Police in Appleton report a man was killed after being struck and dragged by a freight train early Monday. Sergeant Dave Lund said the man laid down on the tracks just north of downtown. The train crew spotted the man and blew the whistle, but he did not respond. He was dragged some 300 feet before the 120 car train came to a stop.

The incident occurred at 1:30 a.m and all intersections in downtown Appleton are back open after being closed during the processing of the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
