The day after Thanksgiving may be the biggest shopping day of the year in stores, but many shoppers will take their search online today. Industry experts have coined the term "Cyber Monday" to describe it, because many people returning from the holiday start looking online to get their gift shopping done. Wisconsin Better Business Bureau President Ran Hoth says that's because they can often find a better selection online.
Still Hoth says bargain hunters need to use caution when shopping on the web. He says customers should check behind the scenes before making a purchase from a site they know little about. Things to check for include whether the website lists a physical address for the business and if their privacy policy protects your personal information. Hoth also recommends you check their shipping and return policies for merchandise.
Nationally, online retail sales are expected to top $32 billion this holiday season.
