Marinette’s mayor is quickly trying to get past his recent arrest for drunk driving. Mayor Robert Harbick was arrested for drunk driving on Saturday, following a one-vehicle accent.

He faced two drinking and driving charges, both only forfeitures. On Tuesday in Marinette County Court, the mayor entered a no contest plea to one count of First Offense Operating While Intoxicated. The other charge was dismissed.

As part of his punishment, Mayor Harbick says he will have to pay a fine, his license will be suspended and he’ll have to undergo alcohol assessment. He says he’s happy to pay what he owes to the state of Wisconsin and just wants to get back to his life and doing the business of the city.

Despite calls for him to step down, Harbick has said he will not resign. He does not plan to seek re-election next year, although Harbick says that decision has nothing to with his arrest.
