Marquette’s string of 15-straight season opening wins came to an end on Friday night. The Golden Eagles fell to Belmont 83-80 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
Freshman Henry Ellenson scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles. Junior center Luke Fischer added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Belmont hit 12 of 34 from three-point range in the victory.
Duane Wilson’s long three-point attempt to force overtime bounced off the back of the rim as Belmont survived a couple of Marquette second half comebacks to spoil the Golden Eagles season opener.
