The Marquette Golden Eagles grabbed the consolation game of the Orlando Classic on Sunday, knocking off Tennessee 67-59.
Redshirt freshman Duane Wilson scored 30 points on 9-for-17 shooting, including four big second-half three-pointers. The Golden Eagles (4-3) forced the Volunteers into 15 turnovers and held them to 42.6% shooting.
The Golden Eagles never trailed in the second half, but the Volunteers did pull to within one with 10:35 left to play. That’s when Wilson took over.
Wilson hit a pair of back-to-back three’s to kick off an 11-2 run. His 30 points were a career high and marked the second time a Marquette player scored 30-plus points during the tournament. Senior Matt Carlino had 38 against Georgia Tech and was named to the all-tournament team.
