The latest Marquette Law School poll shows Tom Barrett and Governor Scott Walker in a recall dead heat. Milwaukee Mayor Barrett will first need to get through the four-way Democratic primary. Political scientist Charles Franklin said likely primary voters favor Barrett over Kathleen Falk 38 percent to 21 percent. And when “leaners” are factored in, it’s advantage Barrett. Barrett’s percentage becomes 45 percent, with Falk at 23 percent, and Kathleen Vinehout and Doug La Follette at eight percent each. Barrett had a seven point lead over Falk in the March poll.

The latest polling shows a Barrett/Walker matchup in the June recall election could be a squeaker. “It’s absolutely a dead heat, and it depends on turnout,” said Franklin. Barrett leads 47 percent to 46 percent among all registered voters, with Walker leading 48 percent to 47 percent among those most likely to vote. The margin of error in the poll is 3.8 percent.

Voters go to the polls next Tuesday to decide the Democratic primary, with the winner facing Walker in June.
