Seton Hall broke open a close game in the second half by outscoring Marquette 17-2 in the first 4+ minutes and knocked off the Golden Eagles 80-70 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center on Wednesday night.
The Pirates (14-6, 4-4 Big East) got 24 points from junior guard Sterling Gibbs, 19 of the 24 came in the second half. Gibbs also hit 6 of 12 from three-point range to lead Seton Hall.
Seton Hall’s starters scored all of the teams points, with all five players scoring in double figures. The Pirates hit 13 three’s, their most this season.
Defense is all of a sudden a concern for the Golden Eagles, who has surrendered 80-plus points in back-to-back games.
It’s the 4th straight loss for Marquette (10-10, 2-6). The Golden Eagles were led by Matt Carlino, who scored 16 points. Freshman Sandy Cohen chipped in 11 off the bench while Juan Anderson and Derrick Wilson scored 10-points each.
Marquette is back home on Saturday to host Butler.
