After routing Seton Hall in the opening round of the Big East Tournament in New York, the Marquette Golden Eagles came crashing back to earth, falling to 4th-ranked Villanova 84-49 in the Big East quarterfinals on Thursday.
Villanova hit 17 of 29 3-point attempts, to win their 13th straight. The 17 three’s tied a Big East Tournament record.
Big East Sixth Man of the Year winner, Josh Hart, made his first six field goals and first five 3-point attempts. He also helped hold Marquette sharpshooter Matt Carlino to five points.
Derrick Wilson had 11 points and nine rebounds, but also committed nine turnovers for the Golden Eagles (13-19).
