A Marshfield man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his ex-girlfriend. Gabriel Campos is accused in the 2012 murder of Maisie McCullough, the mother of his child. McCullough had been stabbed and her throat slit. After initially pleading guilty, Campos changed his plea to not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. Later, it was discovered that Campos had attempted to pay an inmate $4600, a rifle and a car to kill the man McCullough was dating after they broke up.
Campos tried to hire the man when he was in jail and had a charge of soliciting intentional first degree homicide added to the one he received when he was charged for McCullough’s death.
Campos changed his plea again to guilty on Wednesday to the charge of first degree homicide. The second charge of attempting to solicit intentional first degree homicide was dismissed, but can be used for sentencing. Campos remains in jail on a $5 million cash bond. He’ll be sentenced in August and he could face life in prison.
