A white hunter convicted of killing a Hmong hunter near Peshtigo will spend 69 years in prison. Twenty nine year-old James Nichols received the maximum sentence this morning from Marinette County Judge David Miron, for the death of 30-year-old Cha Vang of Green Bay. Vang's body was found in a wildlife refuge in January, a day after he went squirrel hunting. An interpreter read a statement from Vang's widow, Peng Vue during today's hearing.

Last month, a jury convicted Nichols of second-degree intentional homicide, hiding a corpse, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Staryoung Thao, the executive director of the Hmong Association of Green Bay, says he's pleased that Nichols received the maximum sentence. Nichols would be nearly 100 years old at the time of his release.
