Mercury Marine in Fond du Lac is spending nearly $20 million on two construction projects that support the company’s growth and increase its manufacturing capacity.
Mercury spokesman Steve Fleming says the construction is to accommodate increased work they picked up from the former Mercury MerCruiser facilities in Stillwater, Oklahoma and the addition of diesel products that came to Fond du Lac from a recently dissolved joint venture in Charleston, South Carolina.
Fleming says they’ve added nearly 1,000 jobs since dipping below 1,600 at Mercury in Fond du Lac in September of 2009. He says they have 2,550 now and Mercury employs about 5,200 worldwide.
Approximately 90 percent of the construction projects will be performed by companies in the Fond du Lac area or Wisconsin. The enhanced capacity and operations will be fully operational by the end of 2013.
Construction is expected to have minimal impact on employees and their work and no disruption to public roads or traffic patterns.
