A Wausau man gets 12 years in prison for beating his ex-girlfriend, whom he believed was possessed by demons. Chong Cha admitted to being high on methamphetamine during a violent rage in which he punched, kicked and used a speaker box to hit the woman. During his sentencing Cha accepted responsibility but blamed it on the drugs. The judge condemned him.
"The best word I can come up with is brutal but even that word isn't adequate, " says Marathon County Judge Greg Grau.
Cha was on the run for nearly a month after the April 2007 attack, until police caught him hiding in the bathroom of a stranger's house.
He'll begin serving the sentence after he finishes a three-year prison term for severely beating a teenage boy in 2005. The 23-year-old will also serve eight years on extended supervision.
