The number of methamphetamine cases and labs continue to drop in Wisconsin. Figures released by the Department of Justice show a 31% decline in the number of meth cases in 2006, and an almost 55% drop in the number of meth labs discovered in the state. Police reported about 500 meth cases in the state this year, and discovered about 25 meth labs. That's compared to 726 cases and 56 labs in 2005.

Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager says the department's Methamphetamine Initiative has been a big help in bringing those numbers down, especially in northern Wisconsin where the program has been fully implemented. Still, Lautenschlager says the future of the fight against meth includes expanding the comprehensive program to the whole state.
