The loved ones of our country’s servicemen and women are among those feeling the rough times of the recession. An official with the Walmart Foundation says since the economy began to slump, more and more military families can barely make ends meet.

“We’ve seen an increase in need and that’s been reported to us by our non-profit partners,” says Kathy Cox, Manager of Military Giving.

The holiday philanthropy campaign began in November when they donated 35 loaded food trucks, manufactured in Madison, to pantries across the US including into Second Harvest Food Bank of Southern Wisconsin.

Another program is Operation Homefront in which more than 1,500 military families in 30 cites received gift cards. Within the program five families in Greenfield, Wisconsin each received thousand dollar gift cards to shop for presents and essentials at Walmart.
