Bail is set at $1 million cash for a Janesville man charged with first degree intentional homicide. 44-year-old James Humphrey is accused of riding his motorcycle up to a Jeep Friday night and shooting inside after exchanging words with the occupants. 30-year-old Sam Aegerter was killed in the incident.

“We wanted to set a bond that’s high enough that hopefully he’ll remain in custody so the victims and the other witness, Mr. Hall, can feel that their safe. It’s important that they and the community feel safe.” said Rock County Assistant District Attorney Mary Bricco.

Humphrey has no prior criminal record in Wisconsin.

“The randomness of the alleged act is shocking to this court,” said Rock County Court Commissioner Charles Holznecht.

Humphrey is due back in court today, when his lawyer is expected to try and reduce the million-dollar bond.
