A Wisconsinite says he's happy with the attention being given to his million-mile Saab. Peter Gilbert drove his 1989 Saab 900 SPG over the million mile mark late last year. Now, his car is drawing international attention, including a display at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The vehicle is on loan from the Wisconsin Auto Museum in Hartford. Gilbert says it's great to see his car taking center stage in such good company in the Saab display.
Gilbert put nearly 300 miles a day on his Saab while he was still driving it. He says it was able to make it so far over 17 years because of regular oil changes and basic maintenance.
The car will return to Wisconsin after the auto show. Gilbert will also receive a new Saab 9-5 Aero from the automaker later this year.
