Signs, signs. Everywhere a sign. Do this. Don't do that. But don't steal them. It costs taxpayers 100-thousand dollars a year.

DOT Spokesman Mike Goetzman says favorite targets for sign rip-off are the ones with someone's name on them. Such as Johnson Street.

But Goetzman says highways signs are increasingly becoming favorite targets for vandals. Especially paint ballers.

Recently in Wood County, twenty-five to thirty signs were hit with paintballs and had to be replaced at a cost of one hundred and fifty to two hundred dollars a piece if you count the labor involved to make and post them.

The fine for stealing or defacing a highway sign is three hundred-twelve dollars.
