Former Green Bay Phoenix coach Tod Kowalczyk left Green Bay after 8-seasons as head coach to take the head coaching job at Toledo.

Kowalczyk received a 5-year contract with a base salary of $280,000.  The deal includes incentives that could push his annual pay well over $300,000.

At Green Bay, Kowalczyk’s base salary was $133,132, but his total compensation package raised him to around $200,000.

Kowalczyk is taking assistants Jason Kalsow and Angres Thorpe with him to Toledo.  Staying behind to assume control of the Green Bay program is former Marquette star and Green Bay assistant Brian Wardle.  Kowalczyk has lobbied for Wardle to take over as the head coach.  If Wardle isn’t given the job, then he’ll join Kowalczyk’s staff at Toledo. Wardle said he’s confident the program will move forward.
