A Wisconsin group is seeing a spike in the number of people needing a place to live. Steven Schooler, Executive Director of Porchlight Inc. in Madison, says more and more people are seeking low-cost transitional and permanent housing.

People are also scrambling to keep the homes they live in. Demand for a program that gives emergency grants to people facing eviction has gone through the roof.

“The demand for that program has just overwhelmed us,” says Schooler.

Schooler says applicants for the eviction prevention program have increased greatly the past few months as more people find themselves out of work, or in lower paying  jobs.
