The number or Senators facing recall elections this summer grows to eight, after petition signatures targeting four more were dropped off Thursday at the Government Accountability Board in Madison.

Organizers turned in signatures for recall petitions against Republican state Senator Alberta Darling (R-River Hills) and Democrats Jim Holperin (D-Conover), Bob Wirch (D-Pleasant Prairie), and Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay).

In most cases, organizers say they have several thousand more signatures than what is required.

The GAB will begin the process of reviewing the petitions and targeted candidates have a chance to challenge the validity of signatures. If they are deemed valid, recall elections would be held later this summer.

Lawmakers are facing recall efforts because of where they stood on the Governor’s budget repair bill…Republicans for supporting the measure and Democrats for leaving the state to prevent a vote.

Petitions have been dropped off to recall five Republicans and three Democrats.
