Holiday travelers won't need to worry as much about road closures around the state. That's after heavy flooding across Central and Southern Wisconsin last month lead to massive delays across those regions. Many motorists had to take lengthy detours and some areas were unreachable because of water on the roads.

DOT spokesman Steve Olson says most of those areas should be back to normal though, as we head into the Fourth of July weekend. He says most of the major highways in the state will be open to normal travel, even though some areas will still have road construction present.

Olson says the DOT is working quickly to make sure flood affected roads are open. Some areas required bridge and road inspections for any damage that may have been caused by the floods.

Despite efforts to get things back to normal, some roads do remain closed around the state. Olson says travelers should check the DOT website before hitting the road, to make sure their route is clear.
