The Milwaukee School Board scrapped last week's plans to research the possibility of dissolving the district. The board instead, Thursday night, voted to prompt the School Superintendent to come up with fiscal projections for the next three years. Board member Danny Goldberg says everyone at MPS needs to be unified to prompt state officials to change the district's funding structure. He adds under current guidelines MPS shoulders the high cost of the city's school voucher program.

"It's going to require a solution that is beyond the power and scope of the board," he says.

Goldberg is also a supporter of a controversial plan to require domestic partner benefits to employees. He says the 7-2 vote Thursday requests the administration negotiate the benefits packages in way that does not cost MPS more money. Goldberg cannot project when the deal will be finalized; because adding a timeline  "weakens your negotiations." However he along with his colleagues plan on inquiring and encouraging progress in the dealings.
