Dane County detectives continue working to solve the murder of a Mazomanie woman, 43-year-old Cheryl Gilberg. “We put every bit of resources we have into the first 24 to 48 hours in a case of this magnitude,” said Dane County Sheriff Dave Mahoney. “We’ve interviewed hundreds of people. We have some very good leads.”
Mahoney said people they’ve talked with have been cooperating. Gilberg was found shot in the head at her home in Mazomanie last Sunday night. Investigators have not listed a possible motive. “It will be a matter of time, and I think the individual responsible will be brought to justice,” said Mahoney. He added that officers had been working 12 to 16 hour shifts on the case.
