The murder of an abortion doctor is being called a tragic act of violence.

Wisconsin Right to Life Legislative Director Sue Armacost says her organization does not condone this type of behavior. She says folks at her office are shocked and saddened to learn of the death of late-term abortionist Dr. George Tiller.

"We absolutely condemn this terrible act of violence and we extend to the people at the church that he was attending, to his family, we extend our prayers and heartfelt sympathy."

Tiller was fatally shot Sunday at his church in Kansas. Armacost says her organization has consistently and publicly condemned such acts of violence and those who carry out those acts. Armacost says Wisconsin Right to Life is dedicated to using only peaceful, legal means to promote life.

"Once-in-a-while you have individuals like this person who murdered Dr. Tiller. They come out of the woodwork. We don't know where they come from, but they certainly aren't representing the right to life movement."

In a statement, Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Peggy Hamill says her group deplores this act of violence. She says her organization works through educational and legislative means to end abortion.

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin says in a statement, while Dr. Tiller was not a Planned Parenthood provider, he provided critical reproductive health care services, including abortion care, to women facing some of the most tragic medical circumstances.
