Green Bay Packers team president Mark Murphy told the NFL Network at the NFL’s spring meetings on Tuesday that a contract extension for Packers coach Mike McCarthy won’t come before that of general manager Ted Thompson.
Both Thompson and McCarthy have two years left on their contracts, five-year extensions that they signed in 2011.
At a press conference on Saturday, Thompson told reporters that he doesn’t plan to retire any time soon.
Murphy has control over Thompson’s fate and Thompson controls McCarthy’s contractual future. Murphy won’t comment when asked if there have been talks with Thompson on an extension.
